He announced his diagnosis in 2011, finished his Goodbye Tour in 2012, then returned to the studio while he still could. His wife Kim later said there was a growing urgency to capture “what magic was left.” Those recordings became Adiós. The album was released on June 9, 2017. It included songs Glen had loved for years, with help from Willie Nelson and Vince Gill. On “Postcard From Paris,” his children Cal, Shannon and Ashley joined him, singing, “I wish you were here.” Then, on August 8, Glen died in Nashville. He was 81. Don and Joy raised two sons and remained together until his death on September 8, 2017. He was 78. Don Williams spent decades singing quietly about love. The longest love story he ever lived never needed a microphone.
